Senior Interior Designer - Bloomfield, MI

Department: O'Brien Interiors Group
Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Senior Interior Designer to be our in-house design expert for a portfolio of senior living communities. This role is a unique opportunity to directly impact the lives of residents by creating safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environments. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, you will be a key contributor to all phases of the design process, ensuring every project adheres to building codes, specific program requirements, and our high standards of quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead program model creation and maintenance by product and project, ensuring consistency across scopes.
  • Own design development and documentation: produce Room Finish Schedules, Material Legends, Flooring Diagrams, Furniture Plans, detailed construction drawings, 3D SketchUp models and renderings, and all contractor-facing documentation.
  • Define and specify materials, furnishings and décor to meet program objectives; manage sample procurement and finish orders.
  • Act as primary stakeholder liaison: drive selection decisions, communicate schedules, and coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Provide commercial leadership on scope, budgeting and schedule: prepare cost inputs, monitor estimates, and ensure projects meet financial and timeline targets.
  • Oversee installations and site execution: attend installs, manage field coordination, verify safety/compliance, complete punch lists and closeout documentation.
  • Own warranty and post installation issue resolution.
  • Produce persuasive presentations, quote boards and demonstration materials for clients and partners.
  • Maintain and expand design library and market knowledge through vendor relations, product research, and trainings.
  • Capture and document project progress in OpenSpace and CompanyCare.
  • Travel ~50% (increased at key milestones) for site oversight and stakeholder meetings.

Qualifications & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA/BAA/BFA) in Interior Design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years interior design experience; proven experience leading design teams preferred.
  • Proficiency in design software, including AutoCAD/Revit, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience with SketchUp and other technology-based design tools is required.
  • Experience with a construction management tool like Procore is preferred.
  • Professional certification, such as CIDR ACCR NDIQ, LEED – Green or AP, or CHD – Certified Healthcare Designer is preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of field and office work.
  • Frequent travel to project sites.
  • Field work involves exposure to the elements, loud noises, and uneven ground.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.

Classification & Compensation:

  • Full-time, salaried, exempt position.
