Construction Project Engineer

Department: O'Brien Interiors Group
Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI

We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Project Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be a vital support to our project teams, contributing to the successful completion of projects from initial research and property condition assessment through execution, final completion, and close-out. You will assist with project planning, document control, scheduling, reporting, and project accounting, while providing technical direction and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Expertise: Maintain an in-depth understanding of project plans, specifications, requirements, and contracts.
  • Project Support: Assist Project Managers and the Program and Design Team with document control, estimating extra work, customer/vendor correspondence, expediting, problem-solving, labor cost reporting, and scheduling.
  • Procurement Assistance: Support Project Managers and Estimators with the buy-out process.
  • Subcontractor Coordination: Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure timely and accurate material deliveries.
  • Documentation & Communication: Prepare and send submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, and other forms of communication.
  • Continuous Learning: Continuously expand knowledge and use of industry best practices and innovation.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure safe work practices, compliance with all Federal and State safety rules, and manage safety risks.
  • Problem Resolution: Solve problems as they arise using available knowledge and resources.
  • Operational Support: Support on-site operational teams and residents to ensure a positive experience throughout each project.
  • Ethical Conduct: Communicate and uphold the Company’s commitment to Integrity and Code of Ethics.
  • Other Duties: Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
  • 100% commitment to safety.
  • Creative, results-oriented, and self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Excellent computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptable style in working with diverse individuals.
  • Eagerness to accept new tasks to support the project team.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of field and office work; primarily on the job site with a designated workspace in the site trailer/office.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Field work may involve adverse weather, loud working conditions, and high activity levels.
  • Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the job site.

Classification & Compensation:

  • Full-time, salaried, exempt position.
